Rural Intersection Activated Warning Signs (RIAWS) have been developed as part of NZTA’s safer journeys strategy. One of the strategy objectives is safety improvements at high risk rural intersections.
RIAW Signs have been developed to reduce the severity of potential impacts by reducing the speed limit of the main road around rural intersections.
When a vehicle is detected approaching the intersection from a side road(s), the RIAW signs on the main road / highway are activated, reducing the speed of the main road from 100kph to 70kph. |
